The Mission Beyond the Memorial

The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation has extended its support to officers who have suffered catastrophic injuries while performing their duties. The Foundation provides tuition assistance and education grants (grammar school through college) for children of officers catastrophically injured in the line of duty, and pays the insurance premiums for officers who are terminally ill.

On September 14th, 2010, the statue honoring Chicago Police Officers catastrophically injured in the line of duty was unveiled during the Annual Candlelight Vigil at the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park.  The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation had  commissioned world-renowned sculptors Julie Rotblatt and Omri Amrany to design and sculpt the bronze, bas relief and steel statue.  Chicago Police Officers Jim Mullen, Cedric Brumley, Andre Van Vegten, Densey Cole and the family of Officer Bernie Domagala worked with the artists on the design of the statue.
