Reflections

Officer Jackson was a big man with an even bigger heart for others. He was a legend on Cermak Ave during the 70's and 80's. I first met Officer Jackson while I was completing my college internship at the 10th District. Officer Jackson always stopped in the felony review office to say hi. He spoke to me in Spanish and was taking a class to read and write it. As we became friends, he told me he and his wife had adopted a little girl in Mexico. He planed to retire in six months and move to Mexico to take care of the little girl. Given his upcoming retirement date, he was detailed to the district's abandoned cars unit. He previously served on the Tactical Team for many years and enjoyed it very much. He told me he was bored of his current assignment and missed the "action" He returned to the Tactical Team. Two weeks later, he passed away. Officer Jackson made an impression on me and I included him in my internship paper. Today, I'm a 21 year law enforcement officer and still remember Officer Jackson.
