Patrolman Cairns was directing traffic at 79th Street and Stony Island Avenue when he died on February 4, 1927. Officer Cairns was struck by an automobile whose driver was apprehended two blocks later by another motorist who pursued and caught him. Officer Cairns is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, on 87th Street. |
