I'm sorry Ed Smith never got to spend much time with his daughter Eileen and his grandchildren Jeff, Jackie, and Barbara. He would have shown them much love and happiness as they have given us much love and happiness. The world we live in is a joyful, but troubled place made much, much safer by the brave men and women of the Chicago Police Dept. My first clear glance at a grandfather I never met but whom I have always only heard admiring words about from his daughter, my mother, Eileen Maria Smith (Jablonski). This man was a brave soul who was on duty on Memorial Day in 1931 who was called to a public pool area where a young 16 year old boy shot and killed the man who my mother lost at age three.
