Officer Erwin Jackson courageously responded to a call of "man with a gun." Upon arrival, Officer Jackson observed the armed offender waiving his gun at several citizens. After the gunman refused to drop his weapon, Officer Jackson and fellow officers attempted to disarm him. During the struggle, the gun discharged, striking Officer Jackson. The brave officer died as a result of the injuries he sustained. |
Reflections
Officer Jackson and I were in the police academy together. He sat five desks in front of me. During our 14 weeks of training, we laugh and joked alot with one another. I was working the evening he lost his life on Roosevelt Rd. I was there and I couldn't believe it. During my 30 year career, I often thought about my classmate. May he Rest in Peace. -- Sgt.
