On 31 Jan 1937, Sgt. Sullivan was investigating suspects responsible for a series of taxicab robberies. He was en route to meet an informant and was involved in a traffic accident. Sgt. Sullivan's car skidded off the road into a ditch. As he walked along the road to get assistance, he was fatally struck and killed by a motorist who lost control of his car on icy pavement. |

Sidney T. Sullivan was my grandfather. His last assignment was at the Des Plaines st. station. His brother was John L. Sullivan who was Chief of Detectives for 10 years back in the 30's and 40's. His son was Sidney T. Sullivan who was Mayor Kennellys bodyguard as well as Richard J. Daley until 1961 which then he went to 15th. dist as Sgt. He died young in 1965. My name is John L. Sullivan. I worked in 18th. dist and 050. I retired in 2001. Our family started CPD in 1912.
