Jim Mullen will be honored as Irishman of the Year at the Emerald Society’s 39th Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Night which will be held on Friday, September 26th at 7:00 p.m.

On October 16th, 1996, Officer Jim Mullen was shot in the cheek and spine while on duty in the Rogers Park neighborhood. He was instantly paralyzed and dependent on a respirator to breathe. In that moment his life changed forever. He was in the ICU at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for 2 months, and spent 4 months at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago before returning home and bound to a wheelchair. His new reality inspired a passion for proving to everyone that life is what you make out of it. Ever since that day, he has remembered that life is precious and dreams are worth chasing.

And that he has, Jim is a true inspiration to every person that he meets, his spirit will instantly make an impact. His spirit is what fueled his determination to make the most out of life. So when life gave him apples, he made the most amazing apple sauce.  With his mother’s recipe and a clear vision he made the first batch of Mullen’s Apple Sauce. In 2007 he began his mission to bring his mothers wonderful apple sauce to the masses. He started at the little neighborhood grocery store, Happy Foods, where his mom would take him shopping as a little boy. Turned out, everybody LOVED it and it was selling! He was encouraged to make it an official business; as a result Mullen Foods
was born. Since those beginning days Mullen’s Apple Sauce has expanded into many regional stores, becoming a household name in Chicago.
His dream is reality and he works everyday to improve and expand his food company with the love and support of his beautiful family and friends.

Congratulations Jim!  Officer Mullen’s Apple Sauce is available at Jewel, Whole Foods, Happy Foods, Standard Market and Sunset Foods.  Visit www.mullenfoods.com for more information!
