On Thursday, June 27, the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation chartered a bus and traveled with 25 Chicago police officers and a representative from FOP Lodge 7 to the office of the IL Prisoner Review Board in Springfield to protest the release of inmate Joseph Bigsby. Bigsby is incarcerated for the September 1973 murder of P.O. Edward Barron and the attempt murder of three other Chicago police officers.
The group packed the small board room and listened to the case presented by one of the IPRB members. Upon completion, a motion to parole the inmate was put to vote. The final count was 7-7 and thankfully, the motion DID NOT carry. Bigsby will remain in the IDOC until another hearing is set next year.
Thank you to Frank DiMaria and the officers who made the trip in support of P.O. Barron and his family. You have truly honored your promise to never forget.
