On April 27, 2011, I had the great privilege of attending a Gold Star Police Memorial ceremony to honor the lives of fallen officers, including my dad, Paul A. Batson. When my dad died, I was only an infant so I never had the chance to know him personally. But through the wonderful stories, photos and memories shared by my mom Elaine, sister Phyllis and brother Phil, he was brought to life, forever etched into my heart. Every day I feel my dad’s presence and love with me, seeing me through every trial and struggle, every moment of glory and beauty. I am proud to know that I had a brave, wonderful man for my father, and that he died a hero and died doing what he loved to do. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to the Police Memorial, Supt. Cline, and everyone who made this glorious moment possible for me and my family. And a special thank you to my sister, Phyllis, for her never ending love and commitment to making this happen for daddy. Dad, I love you and I thank you for all the sacrifices you made for your family and the City of Chicago. Your loving daughter, Patty.
