|Incident Details:||Detective-Sergeant John Prendergast, 41, was an 8-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 35th Precinct.
On August 30, 1914, Detective-Sergeant John Prendergast and his partner were standing at the intersection of Crawford and Milwaukee Avenue awaiting a streetcar for transport. As they waited with their prisoner, Detective-Sergeant John Prendergast saw a drunk driver approaching. The detective-sergeant was yelling at people to get out of the vehicle’s way when he was struck. The vehicle and its five occupants fled the scene. Detective-Sergeant John Prendergast died at the scene.
Detective-Sergeant John Prendergast was laid to rest in Sag Cemetery.
