||Detective Young Hobson, 40, was an 11-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Detective Division. On May 3, 1968, Detective Hobson was in a store on the 1300 block of South Halsted Street when he saw a gun tucked into a man’s waistband. The officer approached David Walsh and inquired as to whether he had a permit for the weapon. Walsh drew the weapon and shot Detective Hobson five times. Walsh then fled the store and was apprehended by two detectives who were nearby. David Walsh pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. He was sentenced to serve 20 to 40 years in prison.
