|Incident Details:||Detective Emmett Laughlin, 37, was a 10-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Maxwell Street Station.
On August 13, 1939, Detective Laughlin and two officers from the Maxwell Street Station were injured in an auto collision at the intersection of 14thPlace and Union Avenue. Their squad car collided with a vehicle being driven by Charles Moore. The two officers and Moore survived the incident. Detective Laughlin suffered a fractured skull and died of his injuries on August 19, 1939.
Charles Moore was charged with reckless driving and not having proper lights on his vehicle.
Detective Laughlin was survived by his wife and son, Dennis J. Laughlin (CPD). Police Officer Dennis Laughlin died in the line of duty in 1960.
