|Incident Details:||Detective Roderick Macleay, 36, was assigned to the Detective Bureau.
On December 29, 1946, Detective Roderick MacLeay and his partner, Detective Edwin Rach, were transporting a prisoner to the detective bureau when their squad car was struck by a drunk driver. John Trencan, 24, had been drinking at six taverns before colliding with the detective’s squad car head-on at 29th and State Streets. Both detectives died from their injuries.
Detective Macleay’s funeral mass was held at St. Francis de Paula Church and he was laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery. He issurvived by his wife, Edna.
