|Incident Details:||Police Officer Adam Fryer, 34, was a 2-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Twelfth Street Station.
On August 8, 1883, Officer Fryer was patrolling his beat when he heard gunshots. As the officer ran towards the scene, he encountered the offenders, William Martell and John McGrath. The offenders drew their weapons and fired at the officer, fatally wounding him. Officer Fryer died instantly.
William Martell and John McGrath were found guilty. During their appeal trial, they were acquitted of Officer Fryer’s murder.
Officer Fryer was laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery.
