|Incident Details:||Police Officer Andrew Hauswirth was assigned to the Sheffield Avenue Station.
On September 28, 1894, Officer Hauswirth and his partner, Patrick Moore, were on duty near Ashland Avenue and Dunning Street when they heard gunfire. The officers ran north on Ashland Avenue and pursued the two gunmen exiting a yard. During the pursuit, one of the offenders stopped and opened fire on the officers. Officer Hauswirth was shot in the lower abdomen, but managed to fatally wound the assailant as the second offender fled. Officer Hauswirth was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where he died on September 30, 1894.
