|Incident Details:||Police Officer Anthony Cannata, 36, was a 2-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Racine Avenue Station.
On June 15, 1953, Officer Cannata and his partner, Redd Posner, saw a suspicious vehicle they thought may have been involved in the kidnapping of a state representative. When the officers approached the vehicle which did not have license plates, it sped away. During the pursuit, their squad car struck a light pole near Walton Street and Milwaukee Avenue. Officer Posner was transported to Henrotin Hospital where he later recovered. Officer Cannata died at the scene.
Officer Cannata as laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, and their three children.
