|Incident Details:||Police Officer Arthur Wittbrodt, 35, was assigned to the Park District Police – South.
On January 16, 1932, Officer Wittbrodt commandeered a vehicle being driven by a civilian at 53rd Street and Michigan Avenue. The officer asked the civilian to drive him to the scene of a car accident. En route to the scene of the auto accident, the driver pressed on the brakes to avoid colliding with another vehicle and Officer Wittbrodt was thrown from the car’s running board. The officer was rushed to Chicago Hospital where he died on January 17, 1932.
Officer Wittbrodt was laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Pearl, and children, Arthur and Rita.
