|Incident Details:||Police Officer Bartholomew Cavanaugh, 42, was a 10-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Cottage Grove Avenue Station.
On December 15, 1898, Officer Cavanaugh was on patrol at 22nd Street and Indiana Avenue when he went to investigate a possible burglary. The officer attempted to climb an outdoor staircase when he stumbled and fell. Officer Cavanaugh suffered a broken neck and was found unconscious by two officers. He died before arriving at Mercy Hospital.
Officer Cavanaugh was laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Anne, and his children.
