|Incident Details:||Police Officer Charles Pollard, 44, was a 15-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Marquette District.
On December 14, 1967, two armed men, Eugene Armstrong and Clifton Hill, approached Officer Pollard in an alley behind his home and robbed him. Officer Pollard identified himself as a police officer and was shot by the offenders. Tragically, Officer Pollard succumbed to his injuries behind his home.
Eugene Armstrong and Clifton Hill were found guilty of Officer Pollard’s murder and armed robbery. Hill was sentenced to 50-100 years in prison. Armstrong was paroled. Hill was paroled and later arrested for armed robbery. He is currently incarcerated.
Officer Pollard was laid to rest in Restvale Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and children, Careen and Charles Jr.
