Police Officer Charles Walsh, 30, was assigned to the 020 District.
On June 13, 1925, Officer Walsh, Officer Harold F. Olson, 25, and two other officers were in pursuit of a black Cadillac containing members of the Genna crime family. The speeding Cadillac crashed when it attempted to turn at a high rate of speed. The officers exited their squad and were walking towards the vehicle when the three mobsters opened fire on them. Officer Walsh and Officer Olson were both shot. They were rushed to St. Bernard Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
High ranking mafia member, Mike Genna, died en route to the hospital. Two other mafia members were charged but later acquitted.
Officer Walsh was laid to rest in Wilton, Wisconsin.
