Police Officer Clarence Wright, 25, was a 6-month veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Des Plaines Street Station.

On November 29, 1882, Officer Clarence Wright along with other officers arrived at the home of William Allen to execute an arrest warrant for disorderly conduct.  Allen had brutally assaulted his former coworker, William Jones, with a hammer at the Pullman Company because he believed the man was responsible for his dismissal.  When the officers arrived at Allen’s home, the door opened and the offender immediately opened fire.  Officer Wright was shot in the chest and died at the scene.

William Allen was killed by police.  William Jones died on December 9, 1882, from the skull fracture he had suffered during the assault.

Officer Wright was survived by his mother, sister, and brother.
