|Incident Details:||Police Officer Daniel Crowley, 34, was an 8-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the West Madison Street Station.
On July 25, 1881, Officer Crowley was shot by an intoxicated, Edward Kelly at Quincy and Desplaines Street. The officer ordered Kelly to move on when the offender drew a gun and shot him. Officer Crowley was shot in the leg and died from an infection on August 4.
Edward Kelly was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to serve 5 years in prison.
Officer Crowley was survived by his wife.
