Police Officer Dennis Wilson, 27, was assigned to the Cottage Grove Station.
On April 9, 1920, Officer Wilson was on patrol when he heard the sound of gunfire. The officer rushed to the scene where he discovered three men fighting; one of them had been shot. Officer Wilson ordered the shooter, William Hargraves to put down his weapon. Hargraves refused and shot the officer through the heart. The wounded officer returned fire and fatally wounded Hargraves. Officer Wilson died at the scene.
Officer Wilson was laid to rest in Lincoln Cemetery.
