||Chicago Police Officer Edgar A. Clay, 51, was assigned to the 002nd District – Area 1 Youth Division. On January 7, 1982, Officer Clay questioned and searched a juvenile offender who was accused of stealing from Hyde Park Academy. After a .22 caliber pistol was discovered in his backpack, the juvenile became violent and struck the officer causing him to fall to the ground. Officer Clay suffered a severe knee injury which caused a blood clot. He died from a bilateral pulmonary embolism on January 25, 1982. The 25-year Chicago Police Department veteran is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter, Angela; two sons, Robert and Edgar III; a brother; and five grandchildren.
