|Incident Details:||Police Officer Edward Shea, 55, was an 18-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 31st Precinct.
On August 16, 1910, Officer Shea was on duty as a train crossing guard when he was struck by a train in Oak Park. Officer Shea was standing on the west bound train tracks when a train traveling east bound jumped the tracks and struck him. The impact caused the officer’s gun to discharge and wound him in the leg. Officer Shea died instantly.
Officer Shea’s funeral mass was held at St. Matthew’s Church and he was laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Rose, and children, George and Myrtle.
