|Incident Details:||Police Officer Eugene Reid, 47, was assigned to the Stanton Avenue Station.
On May 7, 1945, Officer Reid was walking his beat near Indiana Avenue and 35thStreet when he witnessed a domestic disturbance. The officer saw Barney Johnson, 35, threaten Gladys Dawson, 28, with a gun. Officer Reid opened fire and fatally wounded Johnson. However, Johnson was able to shoot and fatally wound the officer before he collapsed. Officer Reid was transported to Michael Reese Hospital where he later died.
Officer Reid was laid to rest in Lincoln Cemetery.
