|Incident Details:||Police Officer Frank Cunningham, 41, was assigned to the Maxwell Street Station.
On July 4, 1932, Officer Cunnigham and his partner spotted two suspicious vehicles parked in front of a restaurant in the 2000 block of South Laflin Street. The officers entered the restaurant and interrupted a robbery-in-progress. One of the four offenders, Harry King, opened fire and Officer Cunningham was shot in the heart. King was arrested at the scene; the three other offenders fled. Officer Cunningham was rushed to Saint Anthony Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on July 19.
Harry King was charged with murder.
Officer Cunningham was laid to rest in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
