||Police Officer Frank Rappaport, 32, was a 3-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Grand Crossing District. On November 13, 1969, Officer Francis Rappaport and his partner, Officer John Gilhooly, 32, were dispatched to investigate a false call. After the officers spoke to the lying complainant, they began searching for the suspect. As the officers walked through a gangway, both of them were shot by a sniper–Spurgeon Winters Jr., 19. Winters, a Black Panther, was hiding underneath a porch in the 5800 block of S. King Drive. Officer Gilhooly was transported to Billings Hospital where he died on November 14. Officer Rappaport succumbed to his injuries. Officer Rappaport was laid to rest in Cedar Park Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Constance,and his children, Susan, Patricia, and Michael.
