|Incident Details:||Police Officer George Barker, 32, was assigned to the Chicago Avenue Station.
On March 13, 1932, Officer Barker was attending a wedding anniversary party at a soft drink parlor in the 1400 block of West Madison Avenue. While at the party, two armed robbers entered and attempted a hold-up. As the officer drew his weapon, he was shot four times. Officer Barker died at County Hospital.
At the time of the incident, Officer Barker had been on medical leave since July of 1931 when he had been shot while resisting a robber in front of his home.
The offender was found guilty of Officer Barker’s murder and sentenced to life in prison. He died in prison in the 1960s.
Officer Barker was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. He was survived by his wife and two children.
