Incident Details: Police Officer George Giovannoni, 38, was assigned to the Wabash Avenue Station.

On October 19, 1929, Officer Giovannoni was off duty when he witnessed an offender exchanging gunfire with two police officers. Officer Giovannoni chased the offender, Robert Love, into a backyard in the 4800 block of South Federal Street. As the original officers arrived, they witnessed Love shoot Officer Giovannoni. Officer Giovannoni returned fire and fatally injured Love, before dying at the scene.

Officer Giovannoni was laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery. He was survived by his wife.
