||Police Officer Gregory Hauser, 47, was a 20-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to 025 District. On May 13, 1990, Officer Hauser and his partner, Officer Raymond Kilroy, 47, were dispatched to the home of Florence Zuniga for a domestic disturbance that involved her grandson, Ramon Chavez, 23. When the officers entered the home in the 2000 block of North Nordica Avenue, they interviewed Zuniga in her living room. After speaking to Zuniga, the officers entered the detached garage where Chavez was. As the officers questioned Chavez, he snatched the officer’s service weapon and began shooting at both officers. He fled the scene and was apprehended hours later in the 2000 block of North Harlem Avenue. Officer Kilroy was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Officer Hauser to Lutheran General Hospital. They were both pronounced dead upon arrival. Ramon Chavez was convicted of first-degree murder, robbery, and disarming a peace officer. Chavez was sentenced to two terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Officer Hauser’s funeral mass was held at St. William’s Church and he was laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Andrew, Amy, and Daniel.
