Police Officer Henry Mandleco, 29, was assigned to the 12th Precinct.
On April 23, 1919, Officer Mandleco attempted to approach two suspicious men — Joseph Boshart and Peter Scapher — in an automobile containing two crates of stolen chickens on Halsted Avenue between 102nd and 103rd Streets. When the officer ordered the vehicle to halt, Boshart opened fire and shot the officer in the heart. Officer Mandleco died instantly.

Officer Mandleco was laid to rest in Mount Greenwood Cemetery. He was survived by his father, Henry (CPD).
