Incident Details: Detective Hubert Dillon, 38, was a 10-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Maxwell Street Station. On November 23, 1930, Detective Dillon, along with Officers Patrick Gaynor and Robert Irwin responded to a call regarding two men fighting in the 600 block of West O’Brien Street. When the officers approached the men, McKinley Carter drew a gun and shot Detective Dillon. The officers returned fire and fatally wounded Carter. Detective Dillon was rushed to Mother Cabrini Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Detective Dillon’s funeral mass was held at Resurrection Cemetery and he was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. He was survived by his mother, sister, and his deceased brother’s three children, who he was caring for.
