||Police Officer James Campbell, 33, was a 3-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 009 District. On February 1, 1974, Officer Campbell was on duty and wearing his uniform at a currency exchange on the 5000 block South of Halsted Street. As Officer Campbell filled out a money order, one of two armed robbers grabbed Officer Campbell’s gun and shot him twice. The two offenders fled the scene and were never identified. Officer Campbell succumbed to his injuries on February 9 at Billings Hospital. Officer Campbell’s funeral mass was held at Progressive Baptist Church and he was laid to rest in Burr Oak Cemetery. He is survived by his children, Darren and Antoinette.
