Officer James Farley, 32, was assigned to the Summerdale Station.
On June 23, 1927, Officer James Farley and his partner, Sergeant Thomas Kehoe, attempted to place a suspect under arrest who was suspected to have committed a carjacking at gunpoint. The officers spotted the stolen vehicle and the suspect in the 4900 block of North Rockwell Street. When the officers ordered the robber to halt, he began shooting at them. During the gun battle, the suspect was killed. Tragically, Officer Farley and Sergeant Kehoe were fatally injured and died at the scene.
Officer Farley was laid to rest in Rosehill Cemetery. He was survived by his wife. He was a WWI veteran.
