Officer James Looney, 39, was a 7-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 015 Precinct.
On April 5, 1918, Officer Looney attempted to stop a robbery-in-progress occurring inside of a saloon in the 1100 West block of 22nd Street. The officer attempted to arrest the two offenders when he was shot. Officer Looney was transported to a local hospital where he died on May 1, 1918.
Officer Looney was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
