|Incident Details:||Police Officer Jasper Cole, 28, was a 4-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Des Plaines Street Station.
On February 10, 1892, Officer Cole was sitting in the Des Plaines Street Station speaking to Officer Wolbasky. The two officers were discussing a recent murder and Officer Wolbasky commented how he had the suspect’s gun in his pocket. In an attempt to see the weapon, Officer Cole reached into Officer Wolbasky’s pocket and the gun accidentally discharged. The bullet struck Officer Cole and he collapsed. He died a few minutes later at the Des Plaines Street Station.
Officer Cole was survived by his wife and three children.
