Incident Details: Detective Jerry Murphy, 37, was assigned to the Fillmore Station On January 15, 1930, Officer Murphy responded to a burglary occurring inside of an apartment in the 4000 block of West Jackson Boulevard. Officer Murphy was shot when he entered the apartment’s lobby. During the incident, three of the four offenders were shot and killed by police. Officer Murphy died at the scene.

Sam Wasserman was found guilty of being an accomplice.

Detective Jerry Murphy’s funeral mass was held at Church of the Epiphany and he was laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
