||Jessie Brown, 27, was an 18-month veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 004 District. On February 11, 1975, Officer Brown responded to a domestic disturbance on the 8900 block of South Brandon Avenue. Darris Ambrose, 20, was armed with a shotgun and was trying to forcibly gain entrance into his girlfriend’s apartment. As assisting officers struggled to disarm and subdue Ambrose, the gun in his hand discharged. In response, an officer attempted to shoot Ambrose, but accidently shot Officer Brown. Officer Brown died during surgery at South Chicago Community Hospital. Darris Ambrose was charged with first-degree murder. Officer Brown was laid to rest in Oak Woods Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Leora, and three children.
