|Incident Details:||Police Officer John Blumberg, 38, was a 5-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 014 Precinct.
On November 7, 1895, Officer Blumberg was on duty at the Illinois Central Railroad Company located at 111thStreet and Cottage Grove Avenue. The officer was struck by a northbound passing train while directing disembarking passengers from a southbound train. Officer Blumberg did not notice Engine 215 barreling his way until it was too late. He succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
Officer Blumberg was laid to rest in Oak Woods Cemetery. He was survived by his wife and children.
