|Incident Details:||Police Officer John Conley, 41, was assigned to the 30th District.
On May 31, 1929, Officer Conley, along with Officer Herbert Hagberg and Officer Joseph J. Murphy responded to a domestic disturbance in the 2400 block of West Thomas Street. Officer Murphy was keeping watch as Officers Hagberg and Conley approached the residence. As the officers stood near the window, Fredinan Preuse opened fire with a shotgun. Both officers were injured. Preuse murdered two other citizens and severely injured Officer Murphy before fleeing to a nearby railroad where he committed suicide. Officer Hagberg and Officer Conley died at the scene.
Officer Conley was laid to rest in All Saints Cemetery.
