|Incident Details:||Police Officer John Guiltanane, 36, was assigned to the Morgan Park Station
On July 18, 1930, Officer Guiltanane and his partner, Anthony Wistort, responded to an armed robbery-in-progress in the 2300 block of West 113th Street. The partners announced themselves and demanded the offenders surrender and they did. Tragically, two accomplices, Harry Yetter and Williamm Neverarski, drew weapons as they were being placed into the police car. Officer Wistor was shot in the spine and was left paralyzed. Officer Guiltanane was shot in the lung; he succumbed to his injuries at Little Company of Mary Hospital.
Harry Yetter was sentenced to life in prison. William Neveraski was sentenced to 199 years in prison.
Officer Guiltanane was laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
