|Incident Details:||Police Officer John McGonigal, 64, was a 35-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Warren Avenue Station.
On November 14, 1923, Officer McGonigal was killed by an explosion that occurred inside of the Warren Avenue Station's lockup facility. Six barrels of grain alcohol that were confiscated exploded after a police officer lit his cigarette pipe.
Officer McGonigal was survived by his wife, Emma.
