|Incident Details:||Police Officer John Jasper, 37, was a 10-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 008 District.
On September 11, 1964, Officer John Jasper was traveling southbound on Pulaski Road in pursuit of a speeding vehicle. The officer’s squad car was broadsided by a vehicle traveling westbound on 83rd Street. Officer Jasper’s car veered off the road and burst into flames after crashing into a utility pole. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured. Officer Jasper was pronounced dead at Christ Community Hospital.
Officer Jasper’s funeral mass was held at St. Christina’s Church and he was laid to rest in St. Casimir Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; and their children, Janet, John Jr., Cathryn, and Laura Lynn. Officer Jasper was a WWII veteran.
