|Incident Details:||Police Officer John Olson, 45, was a 16-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 28th District.
On October 20, 1938, Officer Olson was escorting a cashier to make a cash deposit at a bank located in the 3200 block of West North Avenue. As they walked to the bank, an armed offender demanded the money the cashier was carrying. As the assailant fled with the money, Officer Olson pursued him, was shot in the back. Officer Olson was transported to Danish-American Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The offenders were never apprehended.
Officer Olson was laid to rest in Irving Park Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Dorothy; and children, Richard, Alice, and LaVerne.
