|Incident Details:||Police Officer John Sacht, 35, was assigned to the Maxwell Station.
On January 1, 1929, Officer Sacht and his partner, John Barry, were investigating an abandoned vehicle. As the officers stood by the car, a speeding limousine drove by and struck them. Officer Barry was thrown aside and suffered minor injuries. Officer Sacht was dragged by the limousine for nearly a block. Officer Sacht was rushed to Cook County Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The police recovered the limousine forty-five minutes later at Racine Avenue and Tilden Street. It was determined to be the vehicle of a prominent Chicago architect and was reported stolen at the Des Plaines Street Station moments before being recovered.
