|Incident Details:||Police Officer John Sausman, 54, was assigned to the 4th Precinct.
On January 5, 1915, Officer Sausman and his partner, Thomas Langan, were patrolling their beat when they witnessed William Mason and Jack Dutton holding up a man at 29th Street and Indiana Avenue. The officers were arresting the men when Mason shot Officer Sausman with a gun that was concealed in his jacket. Officer Langan returned fire and shot Dutton. Mason fled the scene. Officer Sausman died from his injuries.
Officer Sausman was laid to rest in Forest Home Cemetery.
