||Police Officer Larry Vincent, 29, was a 3-year of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Wentworth District. On January 14, 1983, Officer Vincent and his partner, George Lipinski, were dispatched to a robbery-in-progress. Moments after they arrived at the scene, a second pair of officers, George Spraggins and Jackie Stewart, arrived at the residence in the 5000 block of South Calumet Avenue; it was believed to be a drug house. While in the house, Officer Vincent opened fire. Tragically, the officers, who were near a window outside the residence thought they were coming under attack and returned gunfire. Officer Vincent and Officer Spraggins were both shot and stumbled out of the house. Officer Spraggins recovered from his injuries. Officer Vincent was transported to Billings Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Officer Vincent’s funeral mass was held in St. Thomas More Catholic Church and he was laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons, Larry, Jason, and Anthony (CPD); and his parents, Agnes and Sgt. Donald Vincent (CPD).
