||Police Officer Leroy Berry, 27, was a 3-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Kensington District. On October 9, 1969, Officer Berry was found shot in his squad car after going to investigate a disturbance behind a Church on the 9500 block of South Harvard Avenue. It is suspected that the officer had taken a man into custody who then shot the officer three times through the backseat. During the incident, Officer Berry’s gun, wallet and badge were taken. Officer Berry died A 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were taken into custody. Officer Berry is survived by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
