|Incident Details:||Police Officer Martin P. Clarke, 26, was an 18-month veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 012 District.
On August 26, 1984, Officer Clarke and his partner, Richardo Mancha, were on patrol in their squad car when it was hit broadside by another vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the other vehicle, Willie White, 22, failed to obey a stop sign. Officer Clarke was thrown from his squad and died instantly. Officer Mancha was seriously injured. The offender fled the scene on foot and was later apprehended. He was charged and found guilty of reckless homicide and served two years in prison.
Officer Clarke’s mass was held at St. Bede the Venerable Church and he was laid to rest in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. He is survived by his parents, Robert (CPD) and Mary; siblings, Robert and Patricia (CPD) and fiancée, Theresa.
